Processes court cases filed in Jackson County and offer other legal services including: - Civil Court: cases such as lawsuits involving personal injury, property damage, malpractice, employment issues, wrongful death, implied consents, and Tax Court. - Coordination of court activities - Conciliation Court (Small Claims Court): claim amounts are limited to $15,000. - Court records - Criminal state trial court: processing of complaints for violations of law from minor to major offenses including petty misdemeanor, misdemeanor, gross misdemeanor, and felony offenses, and traffic and parking violations. - Family Court: cases involving families, divorce, domestic abuse actions, harassment, child custody, and paternity - Fees and filing: collection and receipt of fees, bonds, and escrow funds; files wills; performs Notary Public services - Harassment Restraining Order and Temporary Restraining Order filing office - Housing Court: cases involving landlord/tenant (eviction process) and determining legal right to possession of property - Information on child support issues - Juvenile Court: cases involving minors under the age of 18 who are involved in delinquency, termination of parental rights, truancy, status offenses, runaways, and children in need of protection, and some traffic offenses. - Marriage ceremonies - Name changes - Parking and traffic ticket fine collection office - Probate/Mental Health Court: supervised and unsupervised probating of estates of decedents, guardianships of minors and adults, conservatorships, and commitments for mental illness or chemical dependency.
