Family Health Services - Maternal and Child Health - Dakota County Public Health

Public health nurses, family health mentors and nutritionists make home visits. Frequency of visits and length of time per visit agreed upon by family and nurse, depending upon needs of family. Services offered: - Health information on pregnancy - Nutritional counseling and guidance - Child's growth and development and child rearing questions - Parenting education - Prevention of child maltreatment - Works with school teams to assist families with special needs children - Maternal and Child Health Program: Pregnancy care; special care for high risk pregnant women; nutritional assessment and education; prenatal health needs including nutrition, weight gain, balance of rest and exercise, substance use, preparation for labor and delivery, and adjustment to new family - After Home Care: Suggestions for appropriate exercise program, mother's health needs, parenting education, newborn care, nutritional needs (breast or bottle feeding), infant growth and development, and supportive community resources - Services for Children: Public health nursing home visits for children with chronic illness, handicaps and developmental delays; nutrition assessment and education; physical and developmental screening; and more
