Emergency Assistance - EA - Blue Earth County Human Services

Cash-grant program for families with low incomes experiencing household emergencies. Families can receive assistance once every 12 months. The assistance received must resolve the crisis. Families must use their own money first. The amount of assistance provided might not cover the entire emergency, but it can help.

Call to request a mailed out application; walk in; or apply online at https://mnbenefits.mn.gov

Required documents

- Application/registration form; eviction notice; proof of citizenship/passport; proof of household income; utility bills; must verify emergency with an eviction or utility shutoff notice - Must verify income received in last 60 days and proof of at least 50% going towards basic need items (food, shelter, utilities, health insurance bills/premiums, clothing, etc.) - Bank statement to show assets client has currently available to be used towards the emergency - May be asked to provide identification of self-and/or children

Eligibility

- Families with children under 19 who live in the home in Le Sueur County - Pregnant women in the third trimester who have an emergency that threatens their health and safety. - Families must be below 200% Federal Poverty Guideline - Assistance provided depends on availability of funding - Families must use their own available income/assets first to solve the emergency - Applicants cannot have refused to accept employment or quit a job without good cause - Emergency funds must resolve the crisis and enhance stability - Applicants must have used 50% of their income in the last 60 days on basic needs. For a utility disconnection, the family must have made at least one payment to the utility vendor in the past 12 months prior to application date. NOTE: Benefits are limited to once every 18 months.
