Works to protect and promote the health and safety of residents and visitors by supporting safe environmental conditions where people live, work, learn, and play. Key functions include:

- Education and outreach: Providing information, guidance, and resources related to environmental health topics such as safe food practices, water quality, lead, radon, mold, and prevention of environmental hazards.

- Healthy housing and environmental consultation: Promoting healthy living environments through education, consultation, and assistance with environmental health concerns.

- Licensing and inspection of establishments: Supporting regulation and oversight of food, beverage, pool, spa, and lodging establishments, including restaurants, special event food stands, public pools/spas, lodging facilities, manufactured home parks, and youth camps, to help ensure compliance with health and safety standards.

- Public health nuisance response: Responding to environmental health complaints and concerns involving conditions that may affect community health, such as sanitation issues, unsafe conditions, or other environmental hazards.
