Head Start - Lakes and Pines Community Action Council
Head Start is a family and child development program for preschool age children at no cost to families. Provides preschool development in two models such as home-based and child-care based. Home-Based Program (Age birth - 3 years): - Lesson plans specifically designed for the child to get them ready for Kindergarten - Opportunities to interact with other parents and children in a classroom setting - Parent meetings for sharing and planning - Special parent-planned events such as family nights, neighborhood tours, and field trips - Weekly 1.5 hour visits in the home jointly planned by parents and a trained home visitor Child-Care Based Program (Age 3 - 5 years): - Approved preschool curriculum with structured, age-appropriate activities - Full year programming - Regular meetings between parents and Head Start staff Other Services: - Learning Readiness program to address needs of at-risk children ages birth - 5 years - Open Book programs provide books to children and families in support of family literacy
