Food Shelf Services - Ely Area Food Shelf

- Provides 7-10 days of emergency food by weight, based on household size - Food distributed at 40 pounds per a single person in a household and 10 more pounds per each additional person in the household - Fresh produce, meat, dairy, eggs, and staple food items offered at each distribution - Home delivery available for homebound individuals who cannot have a friend or family member go to the food shelf for them - Emergency assistance available by appointment - Food donations accepted - Volunteering opportunities available

- 11 am - 5 pm 3rd Wednesday of each month - 8 am - 11 am Saturday morning following regular food distribution day (the 3rd Wednesday) - Food donations: 9 am - 5 pm 3rd Wednesday of each month

Application process

- Register at food shelf when coming to collect food; starting at 11 am, shopping numbers are distributed which designate a 15-minute period of time when shoppers can return to shop; shoppers may request a specific time (if still available) to fit their schedule. - Emergency assistance is available during the month by phone; shopping over the phone is allowed for people who have no other options to receive food

Residents in the cities of Babbit, Ely, Embarrass, and Winton Eligibility is based on participation in one of the following programs, or having an income below 300% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines: - Child care assistance - Energy Assistance - General Assistance - Head Start - MFIP - MinnesotaCare - Medical Assistance - NAPS - Reduced or free breakfast or lunch - SNAP - Section 8 housing - SSI - Transitional housing - Weatherization - WIC
