- Claimant must have been a victim of violent crime in Minnesota or immediate family member of a deceased victim, or a Minnesota resident victimized in a foreign country that does not have a compensation program - Claim must be for more than $50; crime must have been reported to police within 30 days, except in cases of child abuse and sexual assault - Victim must cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies and prosecutors - Victim must file with the Board before three years has elapsed (there are some exceptions for child abuse) - Victim must not have contributed to the crime through misconduct or illegal activity - Victim can claim up to a maximum of $50,000; however, there are caps on certain expenses, and applicants must use other forms of insurance first. - Serves all of Minnesota

Description

Financial compensation for victims of violent crimes to assist with medical expenses, mental health counseling, and economic support. Funeral expenses for the family in case of the death of a crime victim up to a maximum of $6500. Also covers death or injury from some DWIs, hit and runs, and criminal vehicular operation.
