Winona County Human Services offers general information and licensing for persons interested in becoming foster care providers. The county will also provide training and support for foster care providers on emergency, short-term and long-term placements.

None to apply for licensure, but a fee may be incurred with the criminal background check or State Fire Marshall inspection

Eligibility

Licensed adult foster care providers must meet minimum licensing standards: must reside in Winona County in a home that meets fire-safety code; be at least 18 years of age; allow the county or state to complete a criminal history background check on all household members who are 13 years of age or older; provide a physician's statement for all household members stating they are physically able to care for vulnerable adult(s) placed in the home; provide 3 positive references; must have bedroom space available for resident(s) and have an approved fire inspection; complete a home study of the family; and meet required training hours annually; vulnerable children and adults
