Emergency General Assistance - EGA - Ramsey County Financial Assistance Services Department

Eligibility
  • Adults with low income and without minor children
  • Residents of Ramsey County who are in economic need and meet eligibility criteria, such as income and asset limits
  • Individuals must have used 50% of income over the last 30 days for rent and utilities. Some exceptions apply, call for full eligibility screening.

  • Call for information on all programs and to request applications; written application and possible interview required to determine eligibility
  • Clients will have to walk in for final intake. Health care applications do not require a face-to-face interview.

Program Fees

  • No Fee
  • Cash-grant program for adults with low incomes experiencing a household emergency. Adults can receive assistance once every 18 months. The assistance received must resolve the crisis. Adults must use their own money first. The amount of assistance provided might not cover the entire emergency, but it can help.
  • Emergency General Assistance (EGA) provides financial assistance such as security deposit or past due rent/mortgage. Assists with utility payments, when there is a threat of disconnection. Utilities include electricity, heat, and water.
  • Emergency General Assistance helps adults without children. Those who qualify for Emergency General Assistance can receive up to two months' payment for their share of rent/mortgage or utilities, or a combined payment of up to $1500.
