Provides establishment and enforcement of child support orders. Services include: - Collecting current and past-due support payments - Locating non-custodial parents - Establishing parentage - Establishing and enforcing child support orders for basic, medical, or child care support - Reviews and modifies court orders for support NOTE: Child Support Services does not provide parenting time, custody, legal advice, divorce counsel, or spousal maintenance establishment

Application process

Print Application: - Call the Print Application Form Request line for an application. Leave a name and message and clients will be mailed an application packet. - Mail applications to Hennepin County Child Support Services, 300 South 6th Street, MC 890, Minneapolis, MN 55487 Online Application: - Visit website to print, complete, and mail an application at www.hennepin.us/residents/human-services/child-support - Visit the Minnesota Department of Human Services website to apply at https://mn.gov/dhs/people-we-serve/children-and-families/services/child-support/programs-services/applying-for-services.jsp

Fee

$35 federal annual fee may be applicable; cost recovery fee of 2% of income; a monthly $15 is paid by the parent paying support, deducted through income withholding; vary by service and circumstances

Required documents

Application/registration form; birth certificate for families with children; photo ID; proof of residency (piece of mail, application of new ID, rental lease, bus ticket, etc.); verification of the last 30 days of income and assets; including more supporting documents can help process applications quickly

Eligibility

Residents of Hennepin County who are: - Fathers or alleged fathers of a minor child - Parents of a minor child and if one parent does not live with the child - Parents who pay court-ordered child support - Court-ordered and have physical custody of a minor child - Receiving public assistance for a minor child who lives in their home
