Works with families and preschool children in partnership with preschool programs to provide one-on-one literacy support so children will be ready for school and first grade. Offers a literacy first approach to help each child acquire foundational English skills to succeed in school. The program incorporates rigorous and structured foundational literacy lessons, in which the literacy tutor guides the child through a lesson plan focused on reading practice, developing comprehension skills, and a reflection time for the child to assess their own progress. Active learning, literacy games, and a read-aloud, with emphasis on student choice are included in each tutoring session.

East Side Learning Center
Partnering with parents and teachers, ESLC trained volunteers provide one-on-one reading tutoring for children in grades pre-kindergarten - 3rd. The goals of the program are to ensure that each child reads with pride and joy at grade level by 3rd grade; each child has the opportunity to develop a caring relationship with an adult who cares about their success in school; and to include parent participation in the reading progress of their child.
