Offers services to children and youth who are experiencing homelessness to ensure they receive appropriate public education and stability. Homeless liaisons and/or social workers are responsible for ensuring the educational stability and protecting the rights of students experiencing homelessness or housing instability.
Each school district and charter school is required to have a designated District Homeless Liaison. The specific services available to students may vary by public school district and charter school. These services may include:
- Assistance with immediate school enrollment
- Free breakfast and lunch at school
- Information about available preschool programs
- Nutrition assistance
- Referrals to community resources, such as medical care, food, housing, mental health support, and other assistance
- Scholarships for school-related activities
- School supplies
- Transportation assistance
