Addresses legal matters involving individuals under the age of 18. Case types include:Adoption: Legal proceedings to establish a legal parent-child relationship between individuals who are not biologically related.Child Protection (CHIPS): Cases where a child's health and welfare are at risk due to parental actions or neglect.Delinquency: Cases where a minor is alleged to have violated Minnesota law, ranging from minor offenses to serious crimes.Also handles certain traffic violations involving minors. Most traffic, boating, skateboarding, fishing, and rollerblading citations involving a minor are processed through the Juvenile Court. However, Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) citations are handled differently based on the minor's age. For minors under 16 years of age, these offenses are processed in Juvenile Court; for those over 16, they are processed in Criminal Court.The focus is to provide supervision and services aimed at rehabilitating minors and ensuring their well-being. This includes collaboration with various community organizations and government agencies to develop programs that promote a safe and healthy environment for juveniles.
