Low Fee Family Law Project - Hennepin County Bar Association
- Provides access to attorneys who are willing to provide legal services at a reduced rate to eligible applicants. - Cannot guarantee a lawyer to everyone who applies. - Provides legal services in family law matters such as divorce, custody, child support, paternity, spousal maintenance/alimony, domestic abuse/Orders of Protection, and name changes. Does not cover criminal matters, child protection, or other juvenile court matters; and does not cover appeals. - Legal jurisdiction must be in Anoka, Dakota, Hennepin, or Ramsey counties.

Application process
- Call; financial and legal screening is required - If client meets income guidelines and the legal issue is appropriate, staff will attempt to schedule a 30-minute consultation with an attorney who has agreed to accept a lower hourly fee. After the consultation, the attorney will decide whether or not to take the case and the client will decide whether or not to hire the attorney.
Fee
- $30 administrative fee payable at the initial consultation - Private attorneys charge $55/hour for eligible clients - Clients MUST have $500 retainer before the appointment is scheduled - No pro bono assistance is available

- Clients with an issue in family law and a household income between 125 and 250 percent of poverty guidelines; statewide - Clients must be employed or receiving Social Security Disability and not eligible for free legal services through other programs, yet not able to afford legal services at the regular rates
