Education and Outreach - Mental Health Minnesota

- Conducts workshops to help individuals, family members, faith communities, gatekeepers, health providers and the general public identify symptoms of mental illnesses and broaden understanding of mental health. Also provides workshops to address overall health and wellness. - Distributes wellness materials to help individuals take charge of their overall health and wellness and be a partner in their care. - Maintains a website with resource lists, online screening for mood disorders, a calendar of events, general information about mental health, and a blog which reflects on current trends in mental health. - Provides assessment and training for mental health Local Advisory Councils throughout the state, and ensure that mental health consumers are included on the councils and that they have the opportunity to share their experiences and needs. - Publishes The Voice, the agency newsletter, five times a year. Articles include information on self-advocacy, stories of recovery and hope, legislative updates, and emerging trends in mental health. - Raises awareness of mental health issues in the general public and offers programs and resources to individuals, families, faith communities, and health providers. The MHAM Outreach Program uses science-based information to convey the message that mental health is inseparable from overall health; that mental disorders are treatable; and that seeking and providing help is expected, responsible behavior.
