Provides education, brief advice, and full representation for small nonprofit organizations and those seeking to start a nonprofit. Legal issues common to nonprofit and for-profit organizations include: - Human Resources, including employment and benefits - Contracts relating to leases, buying buildings, signing state and county contracts - Articles and bylaws - Mergers and dissolutions - Intellectual property (particularly copyright and trademark) Legal issues common to the nonprofit sector include: - Nonprofit incorporation - Special state and federal reporting requirements - Lobbying expenditures limits - Regulations directed at mitigating conflicts or interest and monitoring executive compensation - Tax-related issues around unrelated business income

Through a large base of volunteer business lawyers, LegalCORPS expands access to business and nonprofit legal services by providing free legal education and brief advice to all small business owners, inventors, and nonprofits throughout Minnesota, and provides legal representation in transactional matters to qualifying low-income small business owners, individuals interested in starting a small business, and small nonprofit organizations throughout Minnesota.
