Program for Home Rehabilitation Assistance - Hearts and Hammers - Twin Cities
Provides exterior painting and home improvement assistance for seniors, individuals with disabilities, and veterans or their surviving spouses so they may continue to live independently. Assistance is provided at no cost and is and is completed by volunteers between June 1 and October 1. Work is limited to exterior painting and related repairs only. Exterior may include: exterior painting, caulking/weatherstripping, repair of damaged siding or trim, repair of accessibility ramp or railings, and yard renewal. - Some homes require advance preparation, a typical makeover is completed in one day - Labor for Program Day is provided by teams of volunteers from Twin Cities area businesses, professional associations, and churches NOTE: Hearts & Hammers does NOT provide interior work and/or repairs

Eligibility
- Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott and Washington counties - Individuals must own and occupy their home (and plan to do so for at least two more years), be a senior citizen over 60 years old, or have a physically disabled individual in their home, or a veteran of the United States Armed Forces or their surviving spouse, and meet specific financial guidelines - Homes will be considered the based availability and skills of volunteers, materials, and scope of work - Home inspections are required for all candidates and are conducted by Hearts & Hammers' representatives. Once homeowners have been selected, Volunteer Teams are assigned to homes based on their preference for size, complexity and location
