Eligibility
- Homeowners and renters who are residents of Becker, Hubbard, Mahnomen, Otter Tail, and Wadena counties. Eligibility is on a sliding fee scale based on household size and the three most recent months of household income.
- Some programming through Reach Out for Warmth will help those slightly over income for Energy Assistance
- Income-eligible homeowners may be able to receive help replacing or repairing their furnace, boiler, or other direct heating components to help keep their home's primary heating source functional

Application process
- Call or visit website for application. Households may apply for Energy Assistance once per program year. Applications for the heating season are typically accepted beginning in September and ending at the end of May the following year. The start date may vary as to when applications begin to be accepted. Call or visit website to determine exact dates application are being accepted. Applications are processed on a first come, first-serve basis and are generally processed within 30 - 60 days, depending on program funding, and information provided.

The Energy Assistance Program helps pay heat and electricity costs. Payments for energy bills are sent directly to the household's energy company or fuel provider for propane, fuel oil, or wood. Financial assistance varies depending on household income and fuel costs.
The Energy Assistance Program provides additional grants for eligible households who need help with:
- Getting reconnected to heat and power after disconnections
- Paying for emergency fuel deliveries of propane, heating oil, or biofuel
- Preventing disconnection
- Some emergency heating fuel funding through Reach Out For Warmth (ROFW)
- Small grants (up to $500) for past-due energy payments
- Financial counseling, vendor negotiation, and advocacy for households in crisis
