Scouting Programs - Northern Star Scouting

Scouting programs provide character, citizenship, leadership, and fitness development for boys and girls from kindergarten through age 21. Included are special outreach programs for at-risk, inner city, and special needs youth. Cub Scouting: youth in kindergarten - 5th grade participate in hands-on activities geared towards citizenship training, character development, and personal fitness. Scouts BSA: weekly meetings guided by adults aimed at increasing responsibility, leadership experiences, camping, outdoor activities, services projects. Members are introduced to more than 100 hobby and career choices through merit badges and goal setting/achievement. Venturing: a youth development program of Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are age 14 (or age 13 and completed the 8th grade) through age 21. Venturing provides positive experiences to help young people mature and prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. Sea Scouts: a specialized segment of the Venture program organized to address members' boating skills and promote knowledge of maritime heritage. Meetings take place in local neighborhoods and communities at the organizations which charter Scouting groups. Scout shops are available selling Scouting uniforms, handbooks, badges (with documentation), camping gear, and other Scouting merchandise.

Eligibility

Open to girls and boys from kindergarten - age 18 for Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA; young mem and women 14 years (graduated from 8th grade) to 21 years (for Exploring, Learning for Life, Venturing, and Juvenile Diversion programs); adult volunteers ages 18 up for all programs. Serves 21 counties across central Minnesota and 4 western Wisconsin counties: Anoka, Carver, Chippewa, Chisago, Dakota, Hennepin, Isanti, Kandiyohi, Lac qui Parle, Le Sueur, McLeod, Meeker, Ramsey, Renville, Rice, Scott, Washington, Wright, Yellow Medicine, and portions of Stearns and Swift in Minnesota; Pierce, Polk and St. Croix in Wisconsin.
