Energy Assistance Program - EAP - Community Action Partnership of Hennepin County (CAP-HC)

The Energy Assistance Program helps pay heat and electricity costs. Payments for energy bills are sent directly to the household's energy company or fuel provider for propane, fuel oil, or wood. Financial assistance varies depending on household income and fuel costs. The Energy Assistance Program provides additional grants for eligible households who need help with: - Getting reconnected to heat and power after disconnections - Paying for emergency file deliveries of propane, heating oil, or biofuel - Preventing disconnection NOTE: The deadline to apply for this program is the end of May. Applications for the following heating season will be accepted starting around September.

Application process

- Apply online through the Department of Commerce website https://mn.gov/commerce/energy/consumer-assistance/energy-assistance-program/, request an application through the mail or print an application - Apply for Crisis Funds using the Energy Assistance application - Pick up an application in person at any CAP-HC location 8 am - 4 pm Monday - Friday - Households who have applied through the Department of Commerce's online application will automatically be submitted for review. Otherwise completed application can be submitted in one of the following ways: - Mail: CAP-HC Energy Assistance Program, 1101 East 78th Street, Suite 110, Bloomington, MN 55420 - Email: [email protected] - Fax: 952-697-1313 - In person: Drop off completed applications and additional documentation at one of CAP-HC's offices - Applications will be reviewed and CAP-HC will follow up with households regarding next steps. The deadline to apply is the end of May. - Residents of Hennepin County; homeowners and renters are eligible; must meet income guidelines and are based on energy cost, household size, and income. Renters that do not pay their heat may also be eligible for Energy Assistance. - Applications submitted after the deadline may be eligible for local funds, referrals, advocacy, etc. Applications denied due to the end of the program year will be put on the mailing list to automatically receive an application for the next program year. - ENERGY RELATED REPAIRS PROGRAM The Energy Related Repairs (ERR) Program provides emergency repair or replacement of broken/non-functioning heating systems (ex. furnace) for Energy Assistance clients. - To be eligible for assistance with a heating system, applicants must submit an Energy Assistance Application, and be approved. - To contact CAP-HC about problems with a heating system, call the Energy Assistance Department, (952)930-3541 - Visit the 211Unitedway.org website for detailed program information https://bit.ly/3bAix4z

Eligibility

Homeowners and renters who are residents of Hennepin County. Eligibility is on a sliding scale based on household size and the three most recent months of household income.
