Description

Cash-grant program for adults with low incomes experiencing a household emergency. Adults can receive assistance once every 12 months. The assistance received must resolve the crisis. Adults must use their own money first. Families must not have used more than 50% of their net income and liquid assets for purposes other than basic needs during the 60 days before the application. The amount of assistance provided might not cover the entire emergency, but it can help. Funds may help with: - Rent, rental deposit, and late mortgage payment assistance. If the immediate crisis includes past due rent/mortgage, no more than two months of previous unpaid housing costs are permitted. Aid for rental deposits is limited to an amount equal to one month's rent. - Electricity, water, sewer, garbage, fuel oil, or natural gas utilities. Utility crisis aid can only be provided from the current to the past two months and does not include reconnection fees. Crisis aid for utility deposits and fuel oil crisis funds are limited. - Coordination with other local resources that may help meet the crisis need, either fully or in part is mandatory (i.e. Southwest Minnesota Opportunity Council, Heat Share, Salvation Army, etc.). Denial of eligibility from such resources or verification that funds are not available to assist with the crisis is required.
