Topics include tax forms, information on personal tax accounts, help obtaining copies of past tax returns, etc. Taxpayers who know have filed can check their refund status using the Where's My Refund tool online. Filing status, Social Security Number, and whole dollar amount of refund are required. Scammers often try to impersonate IRS personnel. Below are some signs that a scammer may be on the phone: - Ask for credit card numbers over the phone - The agency will not call without mailing a bill - Threaten arrest through local police or law-enforcement - The IRS will not angrily demand payment over the phone - Require you to use a specific payment method, such as a pre-paid debit card Individuals who believe they are the target of an impersonation scam should call the IRS.
