Life Skills Group - Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota - Rochester

12-week independent living skills class which helps youth learn skills needed to live on their own. Life Skills - For Credit Youth who attend the 16-week program (60 curriculum hours), may be eligible for 0.5 high school credits. Those who participate in the shortened summer session (30 curriculum hours) may be eligible for 0.25 high school credits. Youth should check with their guidance counselor for details. Program participants may also be able to fulfill community service hour requirements. About the Course Through this course, youth are encouraged to establish short-term and long-term goals. Youth gain many of the skills necessary to get a job or continue schooling with post-secondary education. Discussion about how to achieve financial stabiliy and strategies to manage inevitable challenges is held. All of this is done in a supportive group environment with peers. Topics covered: - Community resources - Cultural diversity - Education and vocation - Employment - Family planning - Meal planning and cooking - Money management - Nutrition - Recreation and leisure - Relationships and self-esteem - Sexuality - Time management - Transportation
