Ombudsperson for Families - Office of Ombudsperson for Families

Works with families to ensure that agency decisions, acts, rules, programs, procedures and other policies are in compliance with the laws that protect children of color in the Minnesota child protection system. The types of problems dealt with include: - Child protection matters such as child out-of-home placement or foster care issues - Failure to comply with the Indian Child Welfare Act or the Minnesota Indian Family Preservation Act - Social service issues such as delays in service provision, lack of service provision, or failure to provide interpreters during intake, investigations, meetings, court appearances, etc. - Unjust or discriminatory treatment by child protection services - Accepts complaints on child protection and investigates active child protection and CHIPS cases to ensure state and federal child protection and child placement laws are followed.
