The Youth Express program is a year-round employment program that connects youth to employment, technology, and entrepreneurship. The program prepares young people for success in a competitive workforce by developing the work readiness skills and growth mindset employers need and expect. Opportunities include: - Express Bike Shop Apprenticeships: youth take donated bikes, and return them to productive service in a retail environment. Apprentices might accept donations, manage inventory, wait on customers, repair and maintain bikes, prepare damaged bikes for recycling, and complete a signature project as a team. - Food Shelf Apprenticeships: at Keystone's Rice Street food shelf, apprentices stock shelves, help with inventory control, and assist food shelf customers. Additionally, youth with language skills may serve as translators. Youth learn customer service skills and make a difference in their community. - Teen Tutor Apprenticeships: apprentices provide literacy tutoring to younger students using the evidence-based Sonday System. Each tutor works with a small group of elementary students four days a week at the McDonough Community Center providing structured sequential literacy lessons. - Teen Tech Apprenticeships: places members of Keystone's Teen Tech Center as paid summer tech apprentices at local companies. Apprentices will get work readiness training as other apprenticeships plus technical training to fit their roles.
