Emergency General Assistance meets the emergency needs of eligible individuals who are in an emergency and who are residents of the state. EGA can offer emergency help with the following: - Damage or rental deposits on a case-by-case basis - Home repairs that make the house livable or clean up expenses for an apartment or home to make it livable - Moving expenses. May provide assistance to older adults or individuals living with a disability with moving fees associated with moving companies that pick up belongings and relocate the resident to a new residence. - Other additional food support for people who have special dietary needs - Mortgage assistance for households who are facing foreclosure - Property tax help for past due taxes - Transportation to relocate on a case-by-base basis for bus tickets only - Utility bills at risk of shut off such as electric, heating, or water bills NOTE: EGA does not help with rent assistance. Households who need rent assistance must apply through the Tenant Resource Connection Rent Help Hennepin application.

Cash-grant program for families with low incomes experiencing household emergencies. Families can receive assistance once every 12 months. The assistance received must resolve the crisis. Families must use their own money first. The amount of assistance provided might not cover the entire emergency, but it can help. Emergency Assistance for Home Repairs: Families must own or live in the home and document the need for repair and the request must be reasonable Emergency Assistance for Moving Expenses: Moving expenses include costs for transportation of personal property, utility hookups, and deposits. Total shelter costs must not exceed 75% of the family's net income. The move must be due to the denial of Emergency Assistance to pay existing shelter costs and the county has determined that moving will resolve the emergency. Emergency Assistance for Shelter: Shelter costs must not exceed 75% of the family unit's net income and an unlawful detainer is required. The county will determine if assistance is available for families facing a loss of shelter and for families without shelter. Assistance may also include damage deposits. Emergency Assistance for Utility Bills: Families must have received a final shut-off notice. Assistance may be available for expenses such as municipal water, sewer, natural gas, electricity, fuel oil, firewood, and trash removal. The utility service must verify it will continue or restore service based on the receipt of Emergency Assistance funds or other payments. Emergency Assistance to Prevent Foreclosure: Families may request aid for an arrearage on contract-for-deed or mortgage payments when a foreclosure action occurs. The family must own, occupy, and maintain the home. The family's household income must be enough to pay housing costs over the next 12 months and can verify that their lender has denied refinancing.

Family emergency assistance, for evictions including first month's rent and/or damage deposit; utility disconnect; car repair for employment purposes; foreclosures; and other shelter related expenses, such as moving expenses, mortgage and property taxes. Maximum amount of assistance provided is $99 for shelter and $700 for utilities.

- Cash-grant program for families with low incomes experiencing household emergencies - Families can receive assistance once every 24 months - Issuance of funds must resolve the emergency, not just delay it - If payment plan arrangements can be made for a portion of or the entire requested amount, this will be the first option in resolving the crisis - If funds are being issued for housing expenses, the family's basic need expenses must be affordable, as defined herein, on a monthly basis. Monthly housing/utility costs cannot exceed 70% of the family's net monthly income. - Crisis must not be caused by a family member's refusing or quitting employment or training for employment without good cause, within the past 60 days - Funds are limited. If funds have been exhausted, no applications will be taken. - Funds are provided in the form of a vendor check Crisis Funds may be used for: - Electric service payment assistance - Gas service payment assistance - Garbage removal assistance (if facing a threat for discontinuation) - Heating fuel payment assistance - Moving expenses (transportation/moving of personal property) - Rental deposit assistance (Except for damage deposits in excess of one month's rent. Also does not provide a portion of the rent payment that was intended to cover an unpaid damage deposit.) - Rent payment assistance - Utility deposit assistance (maximum payment of $750, or the emergency amount negotiated with the utility company, whichever is less) - Water service payment assistance
