ECFE is a parenting education program for all Minnesota families with children between the ages of birth to Kindergarten entrance. Learning opportunities through ECFE may occur in a variety of settings, such as the families' homes, district or community sites, and online parenting education and support. Programming and education services often include parents/caregivers and children but may just include parents/caregivers. Provides a no-cost child and family development program for families with children living in Ramsey County. The program focuses on school-readiness to prepare children for Kindergarten by utilizing developmentally appropriate and social-emotional curriculum. Provides:

• Encouragement of children to speak their native/home language, as well as English

• Free meals, family fun, and parent engagement events

Early Head Start is designed to nurture and support healthy bonds between young children and their parents/caregivers while providing developmentally appropriate educational experiences. Services provided:

• Early childhood and developmentally appropriate education and family services for infants and toddlers in a classroom and home-based setting

• Home-based visit sessions are 1.5 hours per week

• Parent support and education on child development and positive parenting strategies

• Prenatal education and services to pregnant women to ensure healthy outcomes for new mothers and their babies

Works with families on growth and developmental issues. Head Start promotes school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children.

• Offers preschool classroom and home visit experience with a special focus on developing the early reading and math skills needed to be successful in school.

• Programs are offered center-based, home-based, or combination

• Transportation provided when available. Staff assists families in obtaining transportation.

Head Start is a family and child development program for preschool age children at no cost to families. Provides preschool development in two models such as home-based and child-care based. Home-Based Program (Age birth - 3 years):

• Lesson plans specifically designed for the child to get them ready for Kindergarten
• Opportunities to interact with other parents and children in a classroom setting
• Parent meetings for sharing and planning
• Special parent-planned events such as family nights, neighborhood tours, and field trips
• Weekly 1.5 hour visits in the home jointly planned by parents and a trained home visitor

Child-Care Based Program (Age 3 - 5 years):

• Approved preschool curriculum with structured, age-appropriate activities
• Full year programming
• Regular meetings between parents and Head Start staff

Other Services:

• Learning Readiness program to address needs of at-risk children ages birth - 5 years
• Open Book programs provide books to children and families in support of family literacy

Comprehensive family support providing:

• Twice a month socialization events to connect with other families in the program and explore events within the community

• Weekly home visits with a Family Educator for approximately 90 minutes
