Black Parent Association Program - Family Freedom Center

The Black Parent Association (BPA) provides space and resources for parents of Hillside's Black and Brown students to create and maintain a powerful collective to advocate for their children. Program provides a support system and a line of communication with the school district for parents of students of color feel isolated in their own school systems BIPOC parents can choose how and when to invite other existing organizations and potentially the district itself into meetings. Program focuses on community building, identifying specific problems and potential solutions, and setting up to publicly bring those to the attention of Duluth.

Family Strengthening Programs - The Baynan Community

- Asset based visits: Check-ins with families to find their strengths that exist and mobilize those strengths. Connects with families with a minimum of one visit per year. - CLEC (Community, Leadership, Education, and Connection): Opportunities for adults to engage, learn, and connect including activity, class, and training group. - Family support: - Connect families with supportive resources (housing, employment, and healthcare, legal assistance, etc.) - Provide educational support and increased understanding of academic systems navigation for youth and families - Encourage relationship development via events, outings and adult education classes - Gathering events - Parent advisory group
