Public Health Services - Bloomington Public Health Center

Breastfeeding and Chestfeeding Resources - Public Health Nurses, WIC Lactation Consultants, and Peer Breastfeeding Counselors are available to answer questions or concerns regarding breast/chestfeeding Early Childhood Development Resources ?- Follow Along Program: Supports parents by assessing their young child's growth and development up to age 3. Parents receive a development questionnaire called an ASQ (Ages and Stages Questionnaire) in the mail every 4 months. Once filled out, the parent returns it to Public Health. The results of the questionnaire are mailed back to the parent with suggested activities to promote growth and development for the child's specific age range. A Public Health Nurse will call the parent if there are concerns. If needed, a nurse discusses further evaluation or tips on how to promote a baby's physical and emotional development. Emergency Preparedness - Trainings: Personal and Family Preparedness in All Seasons; Psychological First Aid - Weather-related information for excessive heat and extreme cold Health Screenings - Blood pressure screenings - Hearing screenings - Home assessment for asthma triggers - Tuberculin skin tests Immunizations and Flu Shots - Offers immunizations to individuals who are uninsured or underinsured through the Minnesota Vaccines for Children (MNVFC) and the Uninsured and Underinsured Adult Vaccines (UUAV) programs. Older Adult Health A Public Health Nurse may provide: - Assessment of health concerns - Connections to local resources - Support to community organizations to learn more about supporting aging residents Prenatal, Postpartum, and Parenting Resources A Public Health nurse is able to provide: - Assistance with health care questions; food concerns; counseling; child growth and development; parenting skills; asthma education and safe living conditions - Connections to local resources - Education and support for expectant mothers, new parents, and families - Infant Health Initiative: Provides resources and support to pregnant individuals and families with newborns, focusing on reducing infant mortality and preventing preterm births while promoting healthy family environments. - Maternal Early Childhood Sustained Home-Visiting (MECSH) Program: Public Health Nurses promote healthy pregnancy and childhood development with families through discussion, learning opportunities, developmental screening, and referrals to community resources as needed. A needs assessment is completed during pregnancy or the first 2 months after a newborn's discharge from the hospital. Families may be enrolled until the child turns 2 years old. Sexual and Reproductive Health - Public Health Nurses provide health counseling, education, and resource information to individuals and groups WIC Supplemental Nutrition Program - Provides nutrition education, breast/chestfeeding counseling and support, and food benefits for eligible people who are pregnant, have recently been pregnant, or have children up to age 5 years of age.

Health Services - Le Sueur County Public Health

- Blood pressure screening - Breastfeeding mothers support - Case management and care coordination - Child and teen checkup outreach - Family planning services - Financial assistance available for prenatal care, pelvic exams, PAP smears, pregnancy testing, etc. - Follow Along Program: Home visits for newborns, including questionnaires sent to the home until child is four years old. If something on a questionnaire causes concern, a nurse will visit the home and take action if appropriate. - Food recall information - Home health care including home nursing with blood pressure screening, diabetes education for newly diagnosed patients, instructions for new diets, and monitoring of medication administration. Home Health Aides assist with bathing and personal care, meal preparation, and assistance with hair and oral care. Physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists provide services also. - Immunizations: available for children and young adults, birth through age 18. Hepatitis B and Tdap for a fee for adults. Flu shots available from October through December. - Mantoux testing (tuberculosis) - Loan closet - Maternal and child health (car seats available for low-income families) - Prenatal care and education including safety and proper use of car seats - School health nurses consult with teachers on topics such as AIDS, teen pregnancy prevention, self-breast exams, and nutrition.
