Disease surveillance, health education, screening, referral, and follow-up to community resources and student health services are provided via public health nursing in collaboration with health office staff within elementary and secondary schools. Services are also provided in charter schools and the Hawthorne Adult Literacy Center.

Breastfeeding and Chestfeeding Resources - Public Health Nurses, WIC Lactation Consultants, and Peer Breastfeeding Counselors are available to answer questions or concerns regarding breast/chestfeeding Early Childhood Development Resources ?- Follow Along Program: Supports parents by assessing their young child's growth and development up to age 3. Parents receive a development questionnaire called an ASQ (Ages and Stages Questionnaire) in the mail every 4 months. Once filled out, the parent returns it to Public Health. The results of the questionnaire are mailed back to the parent with suggested activities to promote growth and development for the child's specific age range. A Public Health Nurse will call the parent if there are concerns. If needed, a nurse discusses further evaluation or tips on how to promote a baby's physical and emotional development. A needs assessment is completed during pregnancy or the first 2 months after a newborn's discharge from the hospital. Families may be enrolled until the child turns 2 years old. Car Seat Program: Medica and UCare have a car seat program for children up to 8 years of age. Education and installation of the car seat are offered to any resident of Becker County. Child and Teen Checkups (C&TC): Child and Teen Checkups are offered to any Waseca County resident under the age of 21. Checkups include: hearing and vision screening, developmental screening, physical exam, lead screening, immunizations, and referrals to other health care providers as necessary. Follow Along Program: Consists of a series of developmental questionnaires the parent completes and returns to Waseca County Community Health. The questionnaire is scored and a letter is sent to the parent with the results. This program is free to all children in Waseca County under the age of 36 months. Home Visiting Program: Home visits are offered to pregnant women, infants, and children to provide ongoing support. Maternal Child Health Services: All Waseca County families with a newborn are contacted by a Community Health Nurse. A home visit will be offered to provide new parents with information on feeding choices, newborn cares and additional support.

A Child Passenger Safety Seat Technician is available to assist any families within the community with how to properly buckle up their children in car seats as well as how to install car seats correctly. - Child and Teen Checkup (CTC) Outreach: Offers health checkups to children ages birth - 12 years who are enrolled in Medical Assistance (MA).
