Works to strengthen families and engage the ability of all parents to provide an environment that supports the healthy development of their child. Services may include: - Early childhood screening for children ages 3 - 5: Screenings will check the child's vision, hearing, height, weight, immunization status, thinking, communication skills, and social and emotional development. Parents will have the opportunity to discuss the results of the screening with a Family Center staff member. - Early childhood special education: Early intervention services are available for young children who show developmental delays in the following areas of speech/language, motor skills, social/emotional skills, cognitive skills, and functional skills. A formal evaluation is conducted to identify special needs, and then individualized program plans (IFSP's and IEP's) are developed to help children reach their greatest potential. - Book and toy lending library - Dad and child programs - Home visits - Information on community resources - Parent-child activities weekly - Parent discussion groups - Play and learn activities for children - Programs for non-English language learners - School readiness program for children age 3 1/2 - 4 - Single parent program - Special events for the entire family - Workshops on specific topics

YMCA Family time is a variety of programs designed for families with young children to enjoy health activities - Includes Family Fun Night and Parents Night Out - Babysitting services for parents who need child care while they workout - YMCA Climbing Wall provides endless challenges for the experienced climber as well as sport climbing for the beginner; climbing walls birthday parties available - River City Ramble 5k Run/Walk, 2-Mile Walk, and Kids Fun Run is a family friendly event for all. Strollers are welcome

Child Time -After parents leave for parent group, the children (age 1 and older) remain with an early childhood educator and support staff. Parent Education - Parents and a licensed parent educator share experiences, ideas and information.

They also work on English language skills or a GED in partnership with Adult Basic Education. Children participate in a positive early learning experience with an early childhood educator. Programming and education services often include parents/caregivers and children but may just include parents/caregivers. - Early childhood and school readiness classes for children ages 3 - 5 year olds; day time and evening classes available. - Shared learning experience for parent and child in the Early childhood classes. - Gives parents the opportunity to participate in a discussion on parenting topics. - Children in learning activities with a Early Childhood specialist, while parents are in discussion groups. - All children are required to complete Early Childhood Screening before they enter kindergarten. Screening is free and offered by appointment only.
