Early Childhood Family Education - ECFE - Dover-Eyota School District 533

ECFE is a parenting education program for all Minnesota families with children between the ages of birth to Kindergarten entrance. Learning opportunities through ECFE may occur in a variety of settings, such as the families' homes, district or community sites, and online parenting education and support. Programming and education services often include parents/caregivers and children, but may just include parents/caregivers. ECFE (footsteps): Birth to age five. Class consists of a two part structure. The 90-minute class is structured with the first part as parent/child together time. Parents and children participate in organized activities and an educational circle time. The second part is parent/child separation time. Parents meet with a parent educator to discuss parenting topics, while children enjoy a preschool experience with the child educator and playtime with other children. Look at me I'm 3: Age three. This program is for children who are at least 3 years old by September 1 of the school year in which they are enrolling. Meets twice per week on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 8:00 until 11:00 AM. There is no transportation provided. LRP (Learning Readiness Program): Age four to five. Morning and afternoon groups available. Transitional Class: Age five years old by November 1 of the school year in which they are enrolling. This class is offered as one session that meets three times per week, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday for full days from 8:00AM - 2:45PM. ?Classes offered at the Elementary School.

Classes and special events are planned to be enjoyable learning experiences for both parents and children together. Classes usually meet once a week for 90 minutes during the fall, winter, and spring sessions. A typical ECFE class begins with a "parent-child time," where parents and children participate in fun learning activities together. Families join together for a circle time to enjoy songs and finger plays. Parents later join a parenting discussion by a parent educator while children continue their play with an early childhood teacher in the children's classroom. Works to strengthen families and engage the ability of all parents to provide an environment that supports the healthy development of their child.
