The Itaskin Center & Cottage 35-Day Assessment Program is licensed by the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS). This assessment program serves residents between the ages of 10-17 years old. Upon completion of the 35-Day Assessment Program, a Comprehensive Assessment is provided to the youth's guardian and/or treatment team. The Comprehensive Assessment aims to identify child and familial strengths, resiliencies, and opportunities for growth via a multifaceted approach, while also providing diagnoses, recommendations, and a prognosis for recovery. This multifaceted approach involves a behavioral assessment, comprehensive assessment, wellness/recreation assessment, academic assessment, health screening/physical examination. Additional assessments, as requested by individual teams, include a psychiatric assessment and/or chemical use assessment. Upon completion of the program, the assessment team will also recommend a level of care believed to most accurately represent the current needs of the youth and how best to be supported. Opportunities for individual therapy and improving coping skills are provided throughout the 35-day assessment period.

Children's Therapeutic Services and Supports (CTSS) Skills Training:In-home and community-based therapy to address:- Anger management- Assertiveness, problem-solving, and conflict resolution- Interpersonal and friendship-building skills- Impulse control- Social skillsSkills training is proven to reduce the risk of psychiatric hospitalizations and the need for residential treatment. Services are usually provided twice a week, with two hours of skills-based therapy per session; however, all treatment plans are individualized and may vary. Progress is evaluated every 90 days.Adoption Support ServicesProviding post-adoption attachment support and educating pre-adoptive parents about the effect of past abuse and neglect on their pre-adoptive child??Sexuality-specific Services??Intended to address sexual behavior concerns, this includes individual, family, and group therapy, as well as a sexual health curriculum regarding boundaries and respect for children ages 4 -12 and teens age 13 - 19

The Secure unit is a twelve bed detention center. Youth must be at least 10 years old and not older than 19 years of age unless they have remained under the courts' extended juvenile jurisdiction.- Programming is available for males and females. - Encouraged to attend school provided by ISD 318 as well as recreational activities. - Access to chemical health education and mental health services. - Consequence Based Programming - Flexible - Short or long term - Daily use of behavioral rating scales - Availability of urine analysis - Cognitive behavioral groups and individual work

Certifications: QRTP (Qualified Residential Treatment Program)The Itaskin Treatment Center & Cottage Residential Treatment programs provide trauma-informed care in a safe, therapeutic living environment for children diagnosed with a Serious Emotional Disability. The program is adaptive to meet the individual needs of each youth, based on their trauma and mental health screens at admission.Program components include but are not limited to: family integration and support, daily therapeutic groups, cultural education and activities, on-site education, and health screenings and interventions.
