Donor and Nonprofit Relations - Charities Review Council

- Assists nonprofit leaders with building and communicating their organizations' internal strengths through the Accountability Wizard, a process designed to align nonprofit internal practices with widely-accepted standards of strength and accountability - Offers public information on how to make informed giving decisions (does not make referrals to specific charities) - Performs reviews of charities based on 25 standards of accountability in areas of governance, public disclosure, fundraising, and financial health. Reviews are considered current for 3 years, with financial information updated annually. - Provides information on over 8000 charitable organizations which are registered to solicit for donations in Minnesota

Consumer Services Division - Attorney General's Consumer Services Division

Handles consumer complaints, mediation of disputes with businesses and/or referral to other appropriate governmental agencies. The complaint process can include a wide variety of consumer areas including utilities, student loans, automobiles, and scams of all types. Provides information on consumer laws and consumer issues through telephone contacts and consumer information brochures. Includes information on the Fair Credit Reporting Act and similar Minnesota statute involving credit checks and background checks. Provides information on Minnesota charities and the laws that govern them.
