  • Lawshe Memorial Museum houses a research center library of county and regional histories, books, documents, maps, genealogical collections, online databases, oral history tapes, and related items. The Library maintains print and electronic collections of current and historical materials to support effective public policy development, and to document the work of the Minnesota Legislature. Serves the Legislature and the citizens of Minnesota by ensuring access to essential information resources are available to support the legislative process and promote the understanding of state government. Collections include:
  • Books and Reports: A depository library for state agency, consultant reports, mandated reports to track, and make information available electronically as required by the Legislature. Legislative librarians can also obtain materials through an interlibrary loan for legislators and legislative staff from libraries throughout Minnesota and the county.
  • Legislative History: Provides a collection that includes Senate and House historical committee materials, a step-by-step guide, and a detailed list of available resources. Staff are experienced in providing information about the process of researching legislative history. The Library maintains and collects detailed information on party control, length of sessions, special elections, legislators past and present, and information about state government.
  • Minnesota Issues Guides: Creates and maintains guides that summarize current and historical legislative issues, pulling books, articles, and web resources.
  • Magazines: Collections include state and national journals, covering a wide range of public policy areas
  • Newspapers: The Library subscribes to national and state newspapers in print and purchases access to many digital newspapers for legislative users. The Library maintains an in-house electronic Library News Archive for legislative users.
  • Statutory Mandates: Maintains and provides information about Minnesota statutes on all topics, organizations, and policy
NOTE: All citizens and government employees may use the library but materials are loaned to legislative personnel only. Public copying facilities are available.
