Provides outreach services and support to families of young children and the adults that care for them, including licensed family child care providers, child care centers, and family friend and neighbor caregivers. Programs include: - Connecting to a childcare liaison to assist families with the process of securing child care that meets the family's needs, including county and enrollment forms - Resources, support, and training to family friends, and neighbors who are unlicensed caregivers to improve the quality of care provided to children - Car seat education, distribution, and installation for families with qualifying insurance. Car seat education classes are also provided in Somali and can be translated into other languages as needed. - Shared Services Alliances: Designed to work in partnership with Early Child Care programs to offer the services needed to improve long-term financial strength and manage capacity, along with the abilitiy to provide care and services.

Children's Therapeutic Services and Supports (CTSS) aim to help children: - Restore emotional, social, and behavioral skills that have been impacted by mental health disorders - Gain coping skills and self-management tools to manage symptoms and related stress - Develop abilities and skills that are typical for youth of the same age without mental health symptoms Specific services provided to a youth and their family are based on: - Family needs - Family culture - Availability - Model or type of services offered in the area CTSS services can be basic community-based therapy services, such as in a home or school. They can also be more structured and focused intensive site-based services, such as day treatment. For families with complex needs and multiple providers, services must be coordinated with other providers or agencies working together in order to provide comprehensive continuity of care. CTSS services may include: - Therapy: Individual, family, and/or group psychotherapy - Skills training: Individual, family, and group to learn social, coping, communication, and/or daily life skills - Crisis plan development: For the child and family - Children's day treatment: Using trauma-focused CBT and DBT-inspired programming - Behavior skills in-home program: One hour session to help children learn specific skills to reduce symptoms of their mental health diagnosis CTSS provides counseling for children and youth for 2 - 5 hours per week at the clinic, home, school, or community setting focusing on: - Depression - Substance abuse - Sexual issues - Trauma - Anxiety - Family/relationship issues - Adjusting to transitions - PTSD Services may be a combination of skills training, psychotherapy, and crisis assistance. If appropriate, children and teens may be referred to participate in psychotherapy groups as a part of treatment. Groups are comprehensive, trauma-informed, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)-inspired for the treatment of depression, anxiety, trauma, and other mental health disorders.

Adult Workshops: Offers workshops on letterpress printing, paper making, hand bookbinding and more. Preschool Workshops: Provides classes for preschoolers ages three to five with an adult partner. Classes provide an introduction to the book arts that focuses on pre-literacy skills. Each class starts with a story time with books that tie in the art activity. Adults are active participants in the classes, learning and working alongside preschools on a variety of hands-on activities. Family Workshops: Throughout the year, MCBA offers a sampler of one-session workshops for families to experience the book arts together, as well as free workshops offered to families throughout the Twin Cities at community events, art festivals and libraries. Teacher Workshops: Offers instruction in basic techniques and integration of book arts into classroom curriculum. During the academic year, MCBA regularly presents customized programs at teacher conferences and school in-service days.

Topics may include chemical and tobacco use prevention, family health, mental health, nutrition, and physical activity - Public Health Preparedness for Emergencies: Funded by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in partnership with local, state, and territorial public health departments to provide assistance to public health departments across the nation. Helps health departments strengthen abilities to effectively respond to a range of public health threats, including infectious diseases, natural disasters, and biological, chemical, nuclear, and radiological events.

Licensed mental health professionals complete diagnostic assessments working to understand questions, concerns and worries as well as each child's strengths, challenges, and history. Washburn provides counseling, therapy and support for families available at all of their sites. This includes help with with common concerns such as: - Abuse and parent-child conflicts - Attention problems and acting-out behaviors - Depression and anxiety - Difficulty dealing with loss or family changes - School adjustment problems Quick Access Program: Provided in partnership with Medica. Supports children experiencing mild mental health challenges or situational life stressors. Provides a brief mental health assessment and access to clinical care for kids ages 5 - 17 who can benefit from short-term therapy intervention (up to 6 sessions). Aims to reduce the amount of wait time it takes for children and families to receive help with mild mental health challenges or situational life stressors. Available to families enrolled with Medica insurance. Services are not for children or families who have long-standing mental health concerns, a history of past mental health treatment and multiple diagnosis, or safety concerns.

Offers mental health support for individuals with mood, anxiety, or trauma-related disorders who are considering pregnancy (preconception planning), currently pregnant, or parenting a child ages 0-5 years. HopeLine: a free mental health telephone support service. This is not a crisis line. Staff members will call back in 2 - 3 business days to provide mental health triage and connections to resources. Mother-Baby Connections: provides weekly group therapy and parenting support options that meet 1.5 hours per week. Visit website or call for information about current groups. Mother-Baby Day Hospital: a partial hospitalization program that provides group psychotherapy and medication evaluation & management 5 hours per day Monday - Thursday for 2 -4 weeks. This is considered a step down from inpatient hospitalization. Perinatal Outpatient Program (POP): provides group psychotherapy and psychoeducational (virtual and in-person) 3 days per week for 8 - 12 weeks. This program is an ideal fit for women who need more than weekly outpatient psychotherapy visits but do not meet partial hospital level of care.

Programming and education services often include parents/caregivers and children but may just include parents/caregivers. Works to strengthen families and engage the ability of all parents to provide an environment that supports the healthy development of their child. Current classes and events vary. Services may include: - Parent-child activities: Parent and children explore a variety of activities planned by a licensed Early Childhood teacher. Activities are selected to support the growth and development of the children based on the Minnesota Early Childhood Indicators of Progress for young children. - Parent discussion groups: Parents have an opportunity to meet with other parents and gain support. A licensed parent educator will lead the group and share information about parenting issues, child development, and resources based on the Minnesota Parent Education Core Curriculum Framework. - Play and learn activities for children: Children practice and discover their own capabilities by experimenting with materials, playing with other children, and trying out toys appropriate for their age. - Book and toy lending library - Dad and child programs - Early childhood screening for children ages 3 - 5 - Home visits - Information on community resources - Programs for non-English language learners - School readiness program for children age 3 1/2 - 4 - Single parent program - Special events for the entire family - Workshops on specific topics

The Family Home Visiting Program's goal is to prevent child abuse. Public Health Nurses provide home visits over an extended period to develop goals for the child(ren) and family, provide education on child development and home safety. The nurses also provide developmental screenings, environmental assessments and referrals to other community resources that may be beneficial for the family. This program also provides information about safe sleep for infants including specific guidelines for parents.

Minor & Critical Home Repair - A Brush with Kindness(ABWK)is an exterior home preservation program that provides painting, landscaping, weather stripping, and minor repair services for homeowners in need - ABWK helps low-income homeowners, impacted by age, disability, and family circumstances, who struggle to maintain the exterior of their homes - We use volunteers, sweat equity, and no interest loans to make repairs affordable, helping low-income homeowners continue to live independently and securely in their homes - ABWK is a supplement to our core building program. It enables us to serve more families and increase volunteer opportunities - We partner with Aitkin county veteran service office, the D.A.V and Veteran clubs.
