Community Health Programs - Mille Lacs County Community and Veterans Services - Human Services Programs
Provides community health programs such as:
- Child and Teen Checkup Outreach: Helps families find a doctor, dentist, psychologist, and transportation
- Disease and Prevention Control: Monitor and investigate potential disease processes through adult/child immunizations, communicable disease prevention programs, emergency preparedness plans, surveillance of the county's environment, and tuberculosis screening
- Environmental Health: Help protect the residents from environmental health hazards through programs to reduce exposure to health risks, such as food and waterborne diseases, radiation, occupational health hazards, and public health nuisances. Provides radon, lead, and well water education.
- Follow-Along Program: Provides parents with information about their child's development during infancy and early childhood through mailing questionnaires
- Health Promotion: Provides presentations and/or materials on health topics for small and large groups. Topics may include chemical and tobacco use prevention, family health, mental health, nutrition, and physical activity
- Public Health Preparedness for Emergencies: Funded by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in partnership with local, state, and territorial public health departments to provide assistance to public health departments across the nation. Helps health departments strengthen abilities to effectively respond to a range of public health threats, including infectious diseases, natural disasters, and biological, chemical, nuclear, and radiological events.

- Families can receive assistance once every 12 months
- Applicant's name must be on the lease or utility bill
- Applicant(s) must be able to show that their rent and utility costs are affordable
- Emergency assistance is paid directly to the vendor
- Payments, if approved, in combination with other available resources, must be able to resolve the crisis, not just delay it
- Does not provide financial assistance for damage deposits in excess of two month's rent, utility deposits or reconnection charges, legal fees and court costs, garage rental, or moving expenses

- Youth Services and After School Youth Enrichment: Enrichment classes including basketball, karate, Tae Kwon Do, volleyball, volunteerism, leadership training and opportunities for youth to connect with their communities. Also facilitates Youth Connection Council, a youth-adult advisory board that addresses issues and needs related to school-age youth in the district and provides opportunities to serve the community.
- Adult Enrichment Classes: Computers, cooking, money management, fitness, personal development, and more
- Aquatics Programs: Swimming lessons for ages 6 months and older, open swim activities, lap swim, water exercise, water safety education, pool rental, Automated External Defibrillator training, and CPR instruction
- Facilities Scheduling: Manages use of district facilities, indoor and outdoor, outside of regular school day for community usage
- Family/Youth Enrichment: Works to strengthen families by providing parenting skills, spending time in positive activities together in classes, on tours, in fitness sessions, music and other social events; after-school programming; additional evening and weekend opportunities for children preschool age - high school to develop new skills and build new friendships

An emergency housing assistance program for families with children enrolled in a pre-Kindergarten - 12th grade who are experiencing the following:
- Lacking a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence
- Living in overcrowded conditions in their current housing
- Paying more than 50 percent of their income for rent/mortgage
The program provides financial assistance for rent, mortgage, homeowner's association dues, or utilities when available to keep families from losing housing and help those experiencing homelessness find housing.

Washburn provides counseling, therapy and support for families available at all of their sites. This includes help with with common concerns such as:
- Abuse and parent-child conflicts
- Attention problems and acting-out behaviors
- Depression and anxiety
- Difficulty dealing with loss or family changes
- School adjustment problems
Quick Access Program: Provided in partnership with Medica. Supports children experiencing mild mental health challenges or situational life stressors. Provides a brief mental health assessment and access to clinical care for kids ages 5 - 17 who can benefit from short-term therapy intervention (up to 6 sessions). Aims to reduce the amount of wait time it takes for children and families to receive help with mild mental health challenges or situational life stressors. Available to families enrolled with Medica insurance. Services are not for children or families who have long-standing mental health concerns, a history of past mental health treatment and multiple diagnosis, or safety concerns.
