Works to strengthen families and engage the ability of all parents to provide an environment that supports the healthy development of their child. Current classes and events vary. Services may include: - Book and toy lending library - Dad and child programs - Early childhood screening for children ages 3 - 5 - Home visits - Information on community resources - Parent-child activities - Parent discussion groups and parent resources. Topics of discussion may include challenging behaviors, activities that support toddlers learning, parenting styles, setting limits, preventing power struggles, temper tantrums, sleep issues, behavior guidance, and other benefits for parents and their children. - Play and learn activities for children - Programs for non-English language learners - School readiness program for children ages 3 1/2 - 5. Science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) classes are offered. - Single parent program - Special events for the entire family - Workshops on specific topics

Parents and children participate in fun activities that encourage learning. Parents participate in discussions led by a parent educator while their children play, learn, and socialize with other children. Works to strengthen families and engage the ability of all parents to provide an environment that supports the healthy development of their child. Services may include: - Book and toy lending library - Early childhood screening for children ages 3 - 5 - Home visits - Information on community resources - Parent-child classes and activities - Parent discussion groups - Play and learn activities for children - Programs for non-English language learners - School readiness program for children ages 3 1/2 - 4 - Special events for the entire family - Workshops on specific topics

Early Learning Scholarships help individuals pay for child care and early education to help children get ready for school. A scholarship must be used at a Parent Aware-Rated program. Parents Aware is a rating tool to help parents select child care and early education programs. Early Learning Scholarships increase access to early childhood programs for 3-and 4-year old children with the highest needs to improve school readiness for all young children.

Provides home visits to support positive lifestyles and improved pregnancy outcomes through the coordination of holistic health services. New Lives offers information in topic areas such as: - Breastfeeding - Car seat safety - Health and nutrition - Home safety - Infant growth and development - Labor - Parenting - Safe sleep - Toilet training Active participants are eligible for program incentives, pack-n-plays, car seats, breast pumps, home safety supplies, strollers and more. Families are welcome to join the New Lives luncheon held the 4th Wednesday of each month in Nett Lake and 4th Thursday of each month in Vermilion.

Anoka/Washington County Head Start is a comprehensive early childhood development program. Program options: - Early Head Start Child Care Partnership classrooms are for children ages 6 weeks - 36 months in center-based partner locations and ages 6 months - 48 months at family child care partner locations. Hours depend on the needs of families. - Home Based programming is available for pregnant individuals and children ages birth - 5 years old. Head Start teachers make weekly visits with the family bringing learning experiences and developmental activities. Center socialization days occur twice a month that provide socialization for children, and parent education opportunities and peer support for parents. - Center Based Part Day Part Year is for children ages 3 - 5 years old who attend Monday - Thursday 6 hours per day between September - May - Center Based Full Day Full Year is for children ages 3 - 5 years old who attend Monday - Thursday 6 hours per day between September - August All enrolled families are assigned a Family Service Worker to assist them in family goal setting and to provide resources to help the family meet their goal and become self-sufficient.

Provides community health programs such as: - Child and Teen Checkup Outreach: Helps families find a doctor, dentist, psychologist, and transportation - Disease and Prevention Control: Monitor and investigate potential disease processes through adult/child immunizations, communicable disease prevention programs, emergency preparedness plans, surveillance of the county's environment, and tuberculosis screening - Environmental Health: Help protect the residents from environmental health hazards through programs to reduce exposure to health risks, such as food and waterborne diseases, radiation, occupational health hazards, and public health nuisances. Provides radon, lead, and well water education. - Follow-Along Program: Provides parents with information about their child's development during infancy and early childhood through mailing questionnaires - Health Promotion: Provides presentations and/or materials on health topics for small and large groups. Topics may include chemical and tobacco use prevention, family health, mental health, nutrition, and physical activity - Public Health Preparedness for Emergencies: Funded by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in partnership with local, state, and territorial public health departments to provide assistance to public health departments across the nation. Helps health departments strengthen abilities to effectively respond to a range of public health threats, including infectious diseases, natural disasters, and biological, chemical, nuclear, and radiological events.
