Emergency General Assistance - EGA - Freeborn County Human Services

Cash-grant program for adults with low incomes experiencing a household emergency. Adults can receive assistance once every 12 months. The assistance received must resolve the crisis. Adults must use their own money first. The amount of assistance provided might not cover the entire emergency, but it can help. Emergency general assistance provides short-term, one-time assistance for households in a financial crisis because of a threat of utility shut-off, eviction, or foreclosure.

Minnesota Family Investments Program - MFIP - Freeborn County Human Services

Minnesota's version of TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families). Statewide MFIP helps families work their way out of poverty by providing temporary cash and food benefits to eligible families. Statewide MFIP has a 60-month limit, there are some limited exceptions and extentions to the time limit. Participants are required to follow certain work rules. Failure to meet work rules will result in their MFIP grants being sanctioned or reduced. In addition: - Child support will be pursued in those situations where one or both parents are absent - A woman expecting a baby may receive assistance for herself during her pregnancy - Children who are being cared for by certain relatives may receive assistance NOTE: MFIP recipients may be eligible for Emergency Assistance, Child Care Assistance, Medical Assistance, and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Volunteer Income Tax Preparation - Bemidji Senior Center

Do you struggle with the complex and often convoluted language of tax returns? Do you want to understand how to enhance your tax time experience? Available for seniors over 55 and those with low to moderate income, this service allows participants to maximize the benefits of both income tax returns and property taxes. ? AARP Volunteer Tax Preparers assist income tax returns from February to April 15th on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Additionally, they go over property taxes or renter's rebates from June through August on the second Monday of each month from 9:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m., no appointment is needed. Housing Rehabilitation Programs - Semcac Community Action Agency - Albert Lea

MN Housing Rehabilitation Loan Program: helps low-income homeowners make their homes more livable, accessible, and energy-efficient. Eligible improvements include plumbing, electrical wiring, roofing, heating, accessibility improvements, and remedy of any defect preventing the structure from meeting code requirements. Loan places a 15-year mortgage on the property and is forgivable after 15 years only if it remained the owner's principal place of residence. Includes mobile homes in a mobile home park, with a 10 year term. MN Housing Accessibility/Emergency Loan Program: assists homeowners needing emergency assistance and/or essential accessibility improvements to their home. Guidelines and terms for this loan program are the same as for the Rehab Loan Program.

Medical Assistance - MA - Lake of the Woods County Department of Social Services

Minnesota's Medicaid program for people with low income. Most people who have MA receive health care through health plans. Members who do not receive health care through a health plan receive care on a fee-for-service basis, with providers billing the state directly for services they provide. MA pays for a variety of services like doctor visits, prescriptions, and hospital stays. Some services and prescriptions may require prior approval. MA pays for medical bills going back three months from the month the application is received. NOTE: People with disabilities who work, even if they're over the income or asset limits of MA, may still qualify for a program called Medical Assistance for Employed Persons with Disabilities - MA-EPD.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Employment and Training (SNAP E&T) program provides free employment and education training and support for people getting SNAP benefits. Many organizations, including technical and community colleges, community-based organizations, county agencies, tribes, and CareerForce Centers provide SNAP E&T programs and services. Programs can include career planning, job search, training for in-demand jobs, student support, financial support, and continued support once a participant has a job.
