Business Development - Entrepreneur Fund

Educational Program - Programs provided by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs to help with business skills, connections, and potential growth, including workshops and training. For current programs, click here Loans and Advising - Loans with no-cost advising. Loans offered: - City of Cook Economic Recovery Fund: Loan for local business in the city of Cook who are recovering from the summer 2024 flood - Gap Financing: Loan covers the "gap" between various sources of funding and the total cost of the project. Used for commercial real estate projects, such as mortgage or major renovation and has more flexibility than traditional lenders - Healthy Food Fund: Specialized loan for local food retailers and producers that helps with replacing dated equipment, investing in technology, expanding business, purchasing inventory, hiring staff, updating building, purchasing new or existing store, and more - SBA Microloan: Start up loan for working capital, inventory, or equipment purchase - Working Capital Loan: Loan provides access to cash for various projects and investments such as marketing campaigns, purchased inventory, upgrade equipment, or expand business operation.

Community Services - Damiano Center

Information, resources, and referral office to help people through difficult times. Staff provide an immediate assessment of emergency needs and offer resources to help deal with homelessness, chemical dependency, domestic abuse, unemployment, gambling addictions, mental health problems, and help with public assistance. Additional services offered at the center include: - 7 bus passes for the general public daily; usually gone by 9:10 am. Can be accessed twice per month and an intake form must be filled out. - Free telephone line, mailboxes for people who are homeless, hygiene items, and household goods - Safe Bay is located in the parking lot and offers individuals and families living in cars and vans a place to rest without fear of crime, harassment, or being moved along by law enforcement or private security guards. Individuals and families can access showers, breakfast and housing navigation services provided by Daminao Center. - Work related transportation: - Gas vouchers: MUST have valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and proof of employment. Can only be accessed once per year. - Bus pass: MUST have ID and proof of employment. The value of a bus pass is $25 and can only be accessed once per year.

Community Voice Mail - Open Access Connections

- Individuals can obtain a community voice mail number with a 651 area code, to use on job applications, housing applications, and stay in touch with friends and family. Individuals will be able to retrieve messages from any touch tone phone. - Offers assistance to apply for the Lifeline cellphone program. Eligible participants will receive a free monthly phone plan which includes 1,000 minutes of talk, 500 units of text, and 100 MB of data.

Dislocated Worker Program - Southwest Minnesota Private Industry Council

Provides employment and training services to workers laid off from their jobs due to factors like changes in technology, investment strategy, consumption, and competition. These and other services are available at no cost to eligible program participants. A variety of services are available, including (but not necessarily limited to): - Training and retraining resources to update skills or acquire skills in a new field - Job clubs to meet with other job seekers to network, check current job openings and discuss issues - Placement services, including leads developed by counselors and agencies - Career planning and personal counseling for career decision making, developing job goals, and personal planning Job-seeking skills workshops: - Preparing resumes and cover letters - Learning and practicing interviewing skills - Networking Support services in certain cases are available for expenses such as child care and transportation, to enable participants to achieve employment or training goals.

Employment program prepares low-income adults for skilled jobs. Program includes: - Work skills training: Courses including basic computer skills, communication, critical thinking, customer service, and more - Personal empowerment: Courses with an emphasis on developing habits and attitudes of personal stability, responsibility, and professional success - One-on-one coaching: An individual coach works with each participant during the program, job search, and a year into employment - Internship opportunities: Participants gain experience and boost their resumes during internships at local nonprofits and companies - Employment placement: Participants culminate their training program with a full time, living wage position
