Basic Needs - Hallie Q. Brown Community Center
Basic needs services operate on a client-choice model and strive to assist families in achieving self-sufficiency and empowerment through providing food and clothing. Clients of the food shelves or clothing closet are requested to bring a few bags to take their items home.
- Clothing closet provides clothing and small household items
- Food shelf is available by appointment
- Delivers food packages, free of charge, directly to clients that live within 10 miles of the area food shelf. Complete the online food shelf order form. Delivery priority is given to seniors and health-related homebound persons.

Provides a food shelf offering a wide variety of foods such as produce, meats, grains, milk, eggs, deli items, and personal care items. Families and individuals can use the food shelf once per month by appointment. The food shelf:

- Caregiver Consulting: Professional assistance providing information, assessment, education, coordination, and training for caregivers and care receivers
- Caregiver Relief: Coordinates volunteer help for the person who cares for a chronically ill home-bound loved one. Allows the caregiver time to attend to other tasks and provides contact for the home-bound person
- Caregiver Support Group: Helps spouses and family members with changes in the family unit; once a month in both Ely and Babbitt
- Friendly Visits: Volunteer visits for area residents who might be homebound or just alone and want or need contact with the greater community
- Grocery Delivery: Available for those who find it difficult or unsafe to navigate local grocery stores. Volunteers will deliver groceries to the home
- Northwoods Memory Care Program: Guides clients and their families through Alzheimer's by helping to reduce stress and increasing family support
- Tasty Tuesday: Provides a class to older adults at no cost at the Ely senior center. The class provides healthy recipes, food preparation, and more. Availability is limited.

- Walk-in orders will be filled the following business day
- Anything beyond the standard food order including baby items, juice, laundry detergent, dish soap, baking supplies, soy milk, powdered milk, personal care items, etc. may or may not be available
- ECHO will offer delivery of food supplies to those people who call if they need the service
- No-shows (no call two days prior to cancel pickup) count as one of the 12 visits allowed per year
