Partners with families to promote healthy lifestyles and nurturing environments. Child and Family Health Services support families with the following services:
- Breastfeeding classes and resources: breastfeeding support services are available in home, at the Horizon Public Health Office Alexandria main site, and via telephone.
- Child and Teen Checkups (C&TC): complete head-to-toe health and development checkups for persons under 21 years old.
- Child passenger safety: specialists can answer questions regarding child safety seats and check your car seats.

The Living at Home Block Nurse Program provides support services to elders and their caregivers so they may continue living in their home as long as possible. This support is available through volunteers and four part-time staff. No-cost services include:

The Resource Recovery Center uses a single stream recycling program. All recyclable newspaper, magazine, junk mail, all office and computer paper, cardboard, telephone books, hard and soft covered books, cake/cereal/chip/cracker boxes, brochures, paper bags, glass bottles and jars, tin cans, aluminum cans, foil and plates, plastic bottles and jugs, and ice cream pails can be put in the same container for pick up. City residential and business recycling collection schedules vary; contact local hauler or city hall for schedule.
RURAL RECYCLING PROGRAM:
All recyclable newspaper, magazine, junk mail, all office and computer paper, cardboard, telephone books, hard and soft covered books, cake/cereal/chip/cracker boxes, brochures, paper bags, glass bottles and jars, tin cans, aluminum cans, foil and plates, plastic bottles and jugs, and ice cream pails can be put in the same container.
The recycling center also accepts the following problem materials for recycling: used oil and oil filters, tires, antifreeze, fluorescent and high intensity discharge light bulbs, CFLs, ballasts, appliances, lead-acid batteries, button batteries, rechargeable batteries, and scrap metal.
The following items are accepted: clean and dry clothing, bedding, curtains, scatter rugs, belts, shoes, purses; stained materials accepted, must be clean and dry. Call or visit website for recycling household hazardous waste information.

The Public Health provides a broad range of services to residents to promote and protect the health of those who live and work in Kandiyohi County. Services under this Public Health includes:
Asthma Home Based Services:
- Includes up to three home visits
- Learn about asthma triggers in the home and reduce triggers
- Learn about community resources
Prenatal Programs for Expectant Parents:
- Child passenger safety seat program to conduct car seat checks
- Expectant parenting classes offered four times a year by public health nurses and parent educators
- Follow Along Program to track child's development to see if their child is playing, talking, growing, moving, and behaving like other children their age
- Prenatal visits and family home visiting to have a home nurse visit them to offer education and support and post-partum until their baby reaches two years of age
Public Immunization Clinics:
- Annual seasonal flu clinics offering immunizations
- Assessment of immunization levels in the community
- Education related to vaccine preventable diseases and communicable diseases
- Infectious disease investigations
- Services and outreach to immigrants and refugees new to the community
- Tuberculosis education and medication management
