- The Maternal and Child Health Special Project seeks to reduce infant mortality and disability and to improve the health of the mothers and babies. Home visits are made to pregnant women and mothers and infants by a skilled maternal and child health nurse. Education and support services to reduce maternal risk-taking behaviors and improve parenting skills are provided through individual counseling, group education, prepared childbirth classes, special classes for students on healthy lifestyles, and the distribution of printed materials and newsletters
