The Northstar Kinship Assistance program provides financial benefits to relative custodians who had legal and physical custody of their relative children permanently transferred to them through the court. Relatives who live outside of the state are also included in the program.
A Relative Custody Assistance Grant is a monthly financial assistance payment administered by Social Services for relatives who take permanent legal and physical custody of children with special needs upon a juvenile court determination that the children are unable to return to their parent's home.
