Elder Independent Living Program - United Cambodian Association of Minnesota (UCAM)

Programs geared toward helping Cambodian elders and other southeast Asians in the following areas: - Applying for public benefits - English instruction - Citizenship classes, INS interviews and immigration assistance - Healthy eating promotion which reconnects participants with the eating habits of their home countries through nutrition education, development of community gardens, and meals served three days a week from a local restaurant. Serves elders from the Cambodian, Chinese, and Karen communities. - Physical activities and active living - Cultural and traditional ceremonies - Health education - Medicare application - Housing assistance - Funeral assistance - Recreational activities - Group shopping and medical appointment transportation - Translation

Language Interpretation Service - Clarity Interpreting Services

Provides bilingual and ASL interpreters to assist clients who have limited English language proficiency during appointments with health care and social service providers, during legal proceedings, and to facilitate business and social activities. Program provides interpreters at agency, clinic, or hospital locations where the client is conversing with a professional/provider; Notary Public services available upon request.

- Provides services such as advocacy, translation, and interpreting in different settings - Promotes education in the Latinx community through workshops - Promotes activities that encourage the Latinx community to keep their traditions alive, as well as become more active in the larger community - Provides information to the Latino community through the monthly Spanish Latino newsletter - Creates partnerships with other agencies to increase services available to Latinos - Supports the development of leadership in the Latinx community - Educational presentations about Latinos and their culture - Tutoring program for Latinx students in High School from grade 8 - 12 who are in ESL class or need extra help, and middle school from grade 5 - 7 who need extra help with homework.
