Family Home Visiting - Rice County Public Health

Provides family home visiting services by public health nurses and family health staff to support families, parents, caregivers, and children. - Home visits for pregnant women to support healthy pregnancy behaviors and preparation for labor and delivery - Home visits for families with newborns and young children, including education on child growth and development, nutrition, parenting, car seat safety, and connection to community resources - Home visiting services for families experiencing parenting stress or crisis; services are supportive and educational and are provided or overseen by public health nurses; families may self-refer - Home visits for children with disabilities or special health care needs, including health education, resources, and referrals Visit frequency is based on family needs and may range from one or two visits to longer-term services (up to three years). Visits may be provided in person or virtually.

Provide care consultation and public health nursing services for pregnant women, new parents, and infants and children. Services include: - Breastfeeding support - Education regarding the health, growth, and development of newborns, infants, and children including developmental screenings - Individual instruction on correct use of child passenger safety seats (an appointment is necessary) - Infant/children's mental health (social and emotional development) information - Information and referrals to support resources for infants/children with special health needs - Information regarding pregnancy, labor, and delivery - Perinatal depression screening - Pregnancy prevention information - Self care and nutrition information This office also offers child passenger safety seats for eligible families. Maternal and Child Health nurses provided ongoing home visits for infants and children from birth to age 3 to support healthy development and address developmental concerns. In addition the staff ensures that eligible children receive Child and Teen Checkups to ensure that children, birth to 21 years old with Medicaid or MinnesotaCare health coverage. C&TC screenings include: - Dental referral - Development Health information - Hearing and vision Immunizations - Height and weight Physical exam - Nutrition Lab tests MCH nurse can help with scheduling and arranging for transportation or language interpreters when needed.
