- Provides a continued source of historical information available to everyone at the present as well as for future generations. - Long term vision and purpose shall be the collection, preservation and dissemination of historical information and materials pertinent to the history of Aitkin County. - To elevate interest in Aitkin County history by the dissemination of the historical information to interested persons, groups and institutions. To enhance the awareness of the museum and the the historical society with continued programs for students, the public and other organizations as deemed appropriate by the Board of Trustees and the Museum Administrator.

Collects, preserves, and shares the history of Carlton County. Maintains artifacts, documents, maps, and photographs.

- The Benton County History Museum has available for research a number of sources of information for those wishing to research family history - Other holdings include census on microfilm, both Federal and state, Benton County Veterans Census, Benton County Naturalization Records - Newspapers dating back to 1851 - Museum display area

- Depicts the early settlement of the county. Pioneer School was built in 1912 and moved to the grounds in 1968 - Ojibwe items pre-1920's

- Lawshe Memorial Museum houses a research center library of county and regional histories, books, documents, maps, genealogical collections, online databases, oral history tapes, and related items. County newspapers going back to 1857 are microfilmed and readers are available to examine them. On file are hundreds of photographs, articles, and clippings. Copying services offered in research center. - Museum display area has historical exhibits including a mural that is over 80 feet long which depicts scenes from around the county - Special events and educational programming offered on periodic basis - Gift shop has books, prints, and souvenirs for sale - LeDuc Historic Estate provides guided tours, history events, and programs - Sibley Historic Site provides guided tours, history events, and programs - Sites can be rented for events
