Legal Assistance for Civil Liberty Violations - American Civil Liberties Union of Minnesota
A non-partisan organization defending the liberties of everyone, regardless of their politics. The ACLU promotes, protects, and extends civil liberties and civil rights of people in Minnesota through litigation, lobbying, and community engagement. Programs include:
- Campaigns: Identifies key issue areas to focus on in Minnesota. Areas of focus include School Board Watch, Stop 287(g) agreements with ICE, Minnesota Election Action Plan, Know Your Rights: K-12 Students and LGBTQ+ Community, and more. - Notifies developers, general contractors, and owners of the requirements on their projects.

Complaint Investigations - Minneapolis Department of Civil Rights
The Minneapolis Civil Rights Ordinance specifies that it is illegal to discriminate based on race, color, creed, religion, ancestry, national origin, sex (including sexual harassment and pregnancy), sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, age, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, familial status, and by a registered domestic partner.
The Civil Rights Ordinance prohibits discrimination in these areas:
- Labor organization membership and referrals
- Employment, including employment agencies, employment information, and employment advertisement
- Real estate, including broker/sales person, rental, lease, and sales
- Professional organizations
- Credit and lending
- Public accommodations
- Public service

Code Enforcement - Saint Paul Department of Safety and Inspections
Good Neighbor Program: Volunteers work with Police Reserves to patrol neighborhoods and anonymously ask neighbors to be a good neighbor and clean-up. Call to participate in this program or to start a program in a new neighborhood.
Housing Code Enforcement: Conducts exterior inspections of owner-occupied single family and duplex housing and commercial property. Rules and procedures are available on the website or by phone. Rental properties are inspected by the Fire Marshal's office.
Problem Property Unit: Investigates problem property with the help of the police and City Attorney. Examples of problem property include junky yards, intolerable behavior by occupants and their guests.
Truth-In-Sale-of-Housing: Enforces ordinance requiring sellers to provide a disclosure report.
Vacant Buildings: Monitors (registered) vacant buildings to minimize and reduce nuisance conditions in the neighborhoods and community.
Good Neighbor Program: Volunteers work with Police Reserves to patrol neighborhoods and anonymously ask neighbors to be a good neighbor and clean-up. Call to participate in this program or to start a program in a new neighborhood.
Housing Code Enforcement: Conducts exterior inspections of owner-occupied single family and duplex housing and commercial property. Rules and procedures are available on the website or by phone. Rental properties are inspected by the Fire Marshal's office.
Problem Property Unit: Investigates problem property with the help of the police and City Attorney. Examples of problem property include junky yards, intolerable behavior by occupants and their guests.
Truth-In-Sale-of-Housing: Enforces ordinance requiring sellers to provide a disclosure report.
Vacant Buildings: Monitors (registered) vacant buildings to minimize and reduce nuisance conditions in the neighborhoods and community.

NOTE: Represents foster children only; does NOT work with custody issues
Provides direct legal representation for children and youth ages 10 -21 who are abused or neglected in the foster care system. Staff and volunteers are court-appointed by Hennepin and Ramsey counties who enter children protection in Ramsey County or who are state wards in Hennepin County, as well as other appointments from other counties upon request. Other services provided:
- CLC engages in systemic reform benefiting all of Minnesota's foster children. These projects include advocating for policy and legislation regarding children's rights, participating in collaborative working groups focused on children's issues, writing amicus briefs to state and federal appellate courts, serving on statewide and nationwide committees and task forces that address children' issues.
- CLC recruits and trains volunteer attorneys to represent foster children in child protection and state wards proceedings and provides ongoing consultation to the attorney
- CLC staff works in partnership with a volunteer attorney to provide advocacy for children in foster care in court and legal proceedings. CLC's volunteer attorneys advocate for foster children by ensuring they understand what is happening to them, informing them of their options, and empowering them to have a voice in the decisions that are made about their lives.
- The range of issues includes court reviews, appropriate placement, permanency planning, transition to adulthood, sibling contacts, and access to critical services including health care, education and financial benefits

Advocacy Services - Minnesota Department of Human Services - Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Division
Serves as the principal agency of the state to advocate on behalf of Minnesotans who are deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing by working to ensure those persons have equal access to the services, programs, and opportunities available to others.
The Commission addresses barriers to communication access through public policy and legislation. Advises the governor, the legislature, the judicial branch, and the commissioners of all state agencies to ensure their policies and practices are equitable to Minnesotans who are deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing.
