Provides cash assistance to help adults receiving Supplemental Security Income - SSI pay for their basic needs. Adults who are blind, have a disability, or are age 65 and older but don't qualify for SSI because of their income may still be eligible for MSA if they meet income requirements. The basic monthly MSA grant is calculated using either the Maximum SSI amount (Federal Benefit Rate) for the adult or their countable income (if they do not receive SSI), and the MSA standard set by state law. Special Needs Grant MSA also may provide special payments for adults who need:
  • Certain home repairs
  • Certain household furniture and appliances
  • Guardian or conservator service fees
  • Help paying for housing costs through MSA Housing Assistance
  • Medically prescribed special diets
  • Representative payee services
Adults who receive MSA are also eligible for help with medical, food, and housing costs through Medical Assistance - MA, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - SNAP, and MSA Housing Assistance programs.
