Victim/Consumer Direct Assistance - Identity Theft Resource Center

Provides free help to anyone who identifies as a victim of identity theft, those needing prevention resources, or is a victim of a data breach or scam. Advisors will walk all victims through what steps they need to take. Victims of other crimes (burglary, trafficking, domestic/intimate partner violence) or other individuals whose credentials cannot be safely secured (homeless, foster youth, incarcerated/formerly incarcerated, etc.) may be at greater risk for identity theft and may want to talk to an Advisor about their identity-related concerns.

Financial Wellness - Community Action Partnership of Hennepin County (CAP-HC)

Provides financial wellness counseling including creating a budget, understanding credit, and making plans to reach financial goals. Provides free, 1 or 2 day financial wellness class utilizing the FDIC Money Smart curriculum that covers a variety of topics, including budgeting, money management, how to access and understand your credit report, how to manage your credit history and debt, and how to protect your identity and assets. Class materials are provided and offered virtually via Teams.

Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) - Coon Rapids Police Department

Handles consumer complaints, mediation of disputes with businesses and/or referral to other appropriate governmental agencies. The complaint process can include a wide variety of consumer areas including utilities, student loans, automobiles, and scams of all types. Provides information on consumer laws and consumer issues through telephone contacts and consumer information brochures. Includes information on the Fair Credit Reporting Act and similar Minnesota statute involving credit checks and background checks.
