Criteria for admission to the unit are for the patient to be a danger to self or others. This treatment program is for patients who have a major mental illness and require professional assistance to learn how to cope with significant problems they are experiencing in day-to-day living. Patients receive care in the secured hospital unit while learning how to manage their illness. Domestic Violence Intervention Program (DVIP): Identifies and provides services to patients and employees who are victims and survivors of domestic violence. The program collaborates with the Hennepin County Domestic Abuse Service Center (DASC) to provide services. Next Step: A violence prevention program provided to youth ages 12 - 28 years who are admitted to the hospital due to a stabbing or gunshot. Hennepin Assault Response Team - HART: Assists victims of rape and sexual assault through area hospital emergency departments 24 hours a day. They complete an evidentiary exam and help individuals cope with the trauma and consequences of the assault.

The nurse also collects evidence of the assault to be used if the victim chooses to report the crime. Crisis information and referrals to support services, as well as medical follow-up, are also provided.
