Pick-up services offered for: - Cats: Only if they are live trapped or otherwise contained - Wild animals: Only if they are injured/sick - Dead animal pick up Additional services: - Handles routine neglect cases and acts of animal cruelty - Provides adoption of dogs, cats, and small animals at the shelter - Investigates dog bites and quarantine services enforced for rabies - Sells licenses for dogs and cats, dog park permits, and other animal permits - Approves special permits for events involving hooved animals and animals wild by nature - Monitors licensed pet shops in Minneapolis - Investigates crimes against animals - Volunteer program - Works closely with health agencies to control zoonotic (disease that can be passed between animals and humans) diseases Works with Minneapolis Police to allow: - Domestic violence victims to board their pets at the Animal Control facility for five days at no cost - Police officers to bring in the pets of domestic violence victims - Enforces all animal care and protection state and local codes and statutes

La Crescent Animal Rescue provides shelter and care for stray and homeless dogs and cats in the La Crescent area. Services include: rescue and acceptance of stray domestic cats and dogs in the city of La Crescent, placement of stray or abandoned cats and dogs into good homes, and providing a safe and clean environment for animals waiting to be adopted. Animals that are adopted out will already be spayed/neutered, have a feline leukemia blood test, and rabies and distemper shots. The program is in need of foster homes for dogs until they are adopted. Other needs include: clumping cat litter, Friskies canned cat food, bleach, HE laundry soap, paper towels, toilet paper, tissues, Spic and Span, and monetary donations.

Age-appropriate canines and felines also receive a rabies vaccination whenever possible - Other treatments (flea, tick, lice, ear mites, ringworm) if needed - Some pets arrive with injured eyes, ears, limbs, and lacerations that need treatment - Spay/neuter surgery costs - Worming medication Provides a place to surrender/relinquish pets from owners who are no longer able to care for them. Surrender must take place at the shelter building by the original owner of the animal. If full the owner will be placed on a "surrender" list.

Also uses microchip technology and spaying/neutering of adult animals prior to adoption. - Fur Keeps: Keeps pets with their owners by providing resources, assistance, and training to help families and pets stay together. Shelter diversion, emergency financial assistance for veterinary care (pays for 50% of the service with a $1,000 maximum, visit website for additional details), and pet food (2-week supply of food provided per pet per family once within a calendar month) are provided. - Low-kill organization. Does not euthanize based on supply and demand of pet overpopulation. Works with participating vets and only euthanizes animals deemed un-adoptable due to severe health issues or un-remediable behavior problems, such as aggression and biting.

The Winona Area Humane Society (WAHS) provides domestic animal services including shelter of stray dogs and cats, adoption of dogs and cats, and public assistance with pet food. Each animal adopted from WAHS is spayed/neutered, vetted, and updated on vaccinations; microchipping is available upon an adopter's request.
